Experience the best of Tenby

Medieval walls, with the Five Arches gate, still surround much of Tenby's old town, whose narrow streets lead down to a harbour ringed by pastel-painted houses. A ruined castle stands on the headland, with a museum of the town's history beside it, and the Tudor Merchant's House is preserved with period furnishings.

Four beaches, North, South, Castle and Harbour, lie within the town, and boats cross to Caldey Island, where Cistercian monks live in a whitewashed abbey and make perfume and chocolate. St Catherine's Island carries a Victorian fort, and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs past the town, with Saundersfoot, Manorbier and Pembroke Castle nearby.

Local crab and lobster, Welsh cakes, Pembrokeshire new potatoes and ice cream suit the seaside mood, and fish and chips are eaten on the harbour wall. The town fills in summer, the beaches are in use from late May, and the narrow streets are quiet and often bright on winter days.
