Experience the best of Belfast
Belfast is Northern Ireland's capital, a harbour city between hills and lough, known for shipbuilding, Victorian pubs, murals and the Titanic story.

Belfast grew with the linen and shipbuilding trades, and the giant yellow cranes of the old shipyard still stand over the docks where the Titanic was built and launched in 1911. The Titanic Quarter now holds a large museum on that story. In the centre, the domed City Hall, completed in 1906, stands in a square of Victorian and Edwardian buildings, and the Cathedral Quarter has cobbled lanes and old pubs.
Murals on the Falls and Shankill roads tell of the Troubles, and the peace walls that still divide some neighbourhoods are part of the story. The Ulster Museum, the Botanic Gardens with its curved glass Palm House, and Stormont's parliament building on a hill to the east are good places to spend an afternoon. Beyond the city, the Antrim coast's Giant's Causeway and the Mourne Mountains are each within about an hour and a half.
A traditional Ulster fry piles bacon, sausage, eggs, soda bread and potato bread on one plate, and champ, mashed potato with spring onion, comes with stews and seafood. Pubs often have live music. Weather is mild and changeable, with rain at any time of year, and the long light evenings of June and July are the best for exploring.
