Experience the best of Glasgow
Glasgow is Scotland's largest city, a Victorian port on the Clyde with galleries, live music and red-sandstone terraces, and Loch Lomond close by.

Glasgow grew on the River Clyde through shipbuilding, tobacco and trade, and its Victorian wealth shows in the red sandstone of its terraces, museums and merchant halls. The medieval cathedral, which survived the Reformation intact, stands beside the Necropolis, a hill of Victorian tombs. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, a red-stone palace, holds Salvador Dalí's Christ of St John of the Cross and a Spitfire hanging in its hall.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh left his mark on the city, in the Glasgow School of Art and in tearooms and houses. The Riverside Museum, on the Clyde, displays trams, cars and ships. The West End has the Gothic university tower and the Botanic Gardens, and the murals of the City Centre Mural Trail brighten the lanes. Loch Lomond is under an hour to the north-west, and Edinburgh is about an hour east by train.
Cullen skink, a smoked haddock soup, and haggis with neeps and tatties are the traditional dishes, while the city's Indian and Pakistani restaurants are an important part of its eating. Small venues keep a live music scene going, and Glasgow has been a UNESCO City of Music since 2008. The weather changes by the hour, and summer evenings stay light until late.
