Experience the best of Oxford
Oxford is England's famous university city, with honey-coloured colleges, libraries, museums and river meadows beside the Thames and the Cherwell.

Oxford has been a university town since the 12th century, and its dreaming spires belong to colleges that stand shoulder to shoulder around quadrangles and gardens. The Radcliffe Camera, a round domed library, the Bodleian Library, the Sheldonian Theatre and Christ Church, whose dining hall inspired scenes in the Harry Potter films, are the best known. The Hertford Bridge, a covered footbridge nicknamed the Bridge of Sighs, links two parts of one college.
The Ashmolean, founded in 1683, is among the oldest museums in the world, the Pitt Rivers Museum is packed with objects from every continent, and the Natural History Museum shows dinosaur skeletons under a glass roof. The Botanic Garden dates from 1621. Punts glide along the Cherwell, meadows run beside the Thames, and Blenheim Palace at Woodstock and the Cotswold villages are a short drive away.
The Covered Market has traded under its roof since the 18th century, and Oxford marmalade has been made in the city since the 19th. Students and bicycles fill the streets in term time, and on 1 May a choir sings from the tower of Magdalen College at dawn. Spring brings blossom to the colleges, and summer evenings are long.
