Experience the best of Cardiff
Cardiff is the capital of Wales, with a castle in the city centre, Victorian arcades, a waterfront bay and a rugby stadium in the heart of town.

Cardiff Castle stands in the middle of the city, with Roman walls, a Norman keep and a Victorian Gothic interior created for the Marquess of Bute. Bute Park, along the River Taff, runs from the castle walls to the city's edge, and the Principality Stadium, the home of Welsh rugby, towers over the centre. Victorian arcades hold independent shops, and the covered market sells Welsh cakes.
Cardiff Bay, once a coal-exporting dock, is now a waterfront with the Senedd, the Welsh Parliament building, the Wales Millennium Centre and the terracotta-red Pierhead Building. National Museum Cardiff holds a strong Impressionist collection, and St Fagans National Museum of History, an open-air museum of rebuilt Welsh buildings, lies on the western edge. Castell Coch, a Gothic Revival castle with conical turrets, and the ruined Caerphilly Castle, with its leaning tower, are a short drive north.
Welsh cakes, griddle-baked currant cakes, cawl, a lamb and leek stew, laverbread made from seaweed, and Caerphilly cheese are among the national foods. Cardiff's pubs serve Welsh ales, and rugby days fill the city centre. The weather is mild and often wet, and spring and early autumn are the pleasant seasons.
