Experience the best of Pembrokeshire

Most of Pembrokeshire's coast lies within a national park, and the 299-kilometre Pembrokeshire Coast Path follows the cliffs from Amroth in the south to St Dogmaels in the north. St Davids, in the far west, is the smallest city in Britain, with a twelfth-century cathedral in a hollow and the ruins of a bishop's palace beside it.

Skomer Island, reached by boat, has puffins, Manx shearwaters and grey seals, and Ramsey Island and Skokholm are other seabird isles offshore. On the mainland are the castles of Carew and Manorbier and Pembroke, birthplace of Henry VII. The Neolithic burial chamber of Pentre Ifan lies on the northern slopes of the Preseli Hills, the source of Stonehenge's bluestones, and Fishguard is a ferry port for Ireland.

Pembrokeshire has fresh crab, lobster and mackerel, new potatoes lifted in spring, Welsh lamb, cheese, laverbread and ice cream. The sea air is mild, beaches such as Barafundle Bay and Freshwater West are best in early summer, and grey seals pup on the islands in autumn.
