Itinerary
Walk along the central avenue built in the late 19th century that connects the historic square to the port and houses Málaga’s busiest commercial area.
Construction began in the 16th century on the site of a former mosque. The cathedral is known locally as “La Manquita” because its second tower was never completed.
Dating back to the 1st century BC, this is the oldest monument in Málaga. It was built during the reign of Emperor Augustus and remained hidden underground until its rediscovery in 1951.
This Moorish fortress was built in the 11th century by the Hammudid dynasty. It served as both a palace and defensive structure overlooking the Roman Theatre and the city below.
Located in the Buenavista Palace, this museum displays works by Pablo Picasso, who was born in Málaga in 1881. It opened in 2003 and contains a collection donated by members of Picasso’s family.
This lively square is known as the birthplace location of Pablo Picasso. In the center stands a monument dedicated to General Torrijos and his companions, executed in 1831.
Located on Plaza de la Merced, this building marks the place where Pablo Picasso was born. The museum displays personal objects and documents related to his early life.
This is one of the oldest churches in Málaga, founded after the Christian conquest of the city in 1487. Pablo Picasso was baptized here shortly after his birth.

About Malaga
Málaga is a sunny Andalusian port on the Costa del Sol, the birthplace of Picasso, with a Moorish fortress, city beaches and a thriving museum scene.
The Alcazaba, a Moorish fortress-palace, climbs the hill above the old town, with Gibralfaro Castle higher still and views over the port and bay. At its foot lie the Roman Theatre and the cathedral, nicknamed La Manquita, the one-armed lady, because its second tower was never finished.
Top-ranked sights in Malaga: Malaga Alcazaba, Malaga Cathedral (Cathedral de la Encarnación), Constitution Square (Plaza de la Constitucion).
