Experience the best of Mallorca
Mallorca is the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands, with a Gothic cathedral in Palma, a rugged north-west mountain range and coves of clear water.

Mallorca lies in the western Mediterranean, an island of limestone mountains, almond and olive groves and a long, indented coast. Palma, the capital, is dominated by La Seu, a Gothic cathedral that rises over the bay, and by the Almudaina Palace beside it; the circular Bellver Castle looks down from a forested hill. The old town has quiet courtyards, boutiques and tapas bars.
The Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO-listed mountain range along the north-west coast, has cliff-top villages such as Deià and Valldemossa, where Chopin spent a winter, and walking and cycling routes. A vintage wooden train runs between Palma and Sóller, and a tram descends to the harbour. Formentor's lighthouse stands on the northern tip, and the Caves of Drach near Porto Cristo hold an underground lake.
Mallorcan cooking features ensaimada, a spiral pastry dusted with sugar, sobrassada, a soft spiced sausage, tumbet vegetable bake and fresh fish. The island produces wine around Binissalem and sea salt at Es Trenc. Almond trees blossom in January and February, spring and autumn are ideal for walking and cycling, and summer is hot with busy beaches.
