Experience the best of Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is a round volcanic island in the Atlantic, nicknamed a miniature continent for its dunes, ravines, pine forests and mountain peaks.

Gran Canaria rises from the Atlantic to a rim of peaks, and it has been called a continent in miniature because it holds desert dunes, green valleys and cool forests within a short distance. Las Palmas, on the north-east coast, is the island's capital, with the old quarter of Vegueta, its cathedral and the Casa de Colón, where Columbus is said to have stayed. Las Canteras beach runs for three kilometres along the city.
In the south, the Maspalomas dunes form a sandy nature reserve beside the sea, and Puerto de Mogán, a small harbour with flower-covered houses, lies on the south-west coast. Inland, the volcanic rock Roque Nublo stands on the summit ridge, the Pico de las Nieves is the highest point, and mountain villages like Tejeda and Teror have almond groves, balconies and a Sunday market.
Papas arrugadas, wrinkled salted potatoes served with red and green mojo sauces, are the island's classic, along with gofio, toasted-grain flour, and queso de flor, a cheese made from flower-curdled milk from Guía. Ron miel, a honey rum, and bienmesabe, an almond dessert, finish meals. Spring-like weather lasts through most of the year, the north is cooler and cloudier, and the south sunnier.
