Experience the best of Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is the second-largest of the Canary Islands, a dry, windy island of long white-sand beaches, dunes and volcanic hills.

Fuerteventura lies in the eastern Canary Islands, close to the African coast. Its landscape is dry and open, with volcanic cones, rust-coloured mountains and miles of white and golden sand, and in 2009 UNESCO named the whole island a biosphere reserve. Puerto del Rosario is the capital, and Betancuria, an inland village of whitewashed houses, was the island's first capital.
The dunes of Corralejo sweep down to the sea in the north, and Isla de Lobos is a small island across the strait. The Jandía peninsula has the long, shallow beaches of Sotavento, where windsurfers gather, and the wild, remote beach of Cofete. El Cotillo has surf, and the cliffs and sea caves at Ajuy are among the oldest rocks in the Canaries. The salt flats of Salinas del Carmen have a museum, and Mount Tindaya was sacred to the island's first people.
Majorero goat cheese, papas arrugadas, wrinkled salt potatoes served with mojo sauce, and fresh fish such as vieja are local favourites, along with gofio, toasted grain flour. Aloe vera is grown across the island, and the trade winds blow almost without pause.
