Experience the best of Llandudno

Llandudno was laid out as a resort in the 1850s, and its seafront of grand hotels curves around a wide bay between the Great Orme and the Little Orme. The pier, more than half a kilometre long, reaches out into the sea, and broad streets of Victorian shops and arcades run back from the promenade.

The Great Orme, a limestone headland 207 metres high, is climbed by a Victorian tramway or a cable car, and wild goats graze its slopes above Bronze Age copper mines about 4,000 years old. Alice Liddell, who inspired Lewis Carroll's Alice, holidayed in the town with her family, and White Rabbit statues recall her. The walled town and castle of Conwy lie across the estuary, and Snowdonia rises beyond.

Fish and chips, ice cream, Welsh lamb and bara brith are the seaside staples, with Welsh ales in the older pubs. The resort fills with families in summer, spring brings daffodils and the first warm days on the promenade, and winter storms throw spray over the sea wall.
