Experience the best of Kingston

Kingston sits where Lake Ontario drains into the St Lawrence River, at the head of the Thousand Islands, in eastern Ontario. It was briefly the first capital of the united Province of Canada, from 1841 to 1844, and its limestone buildings, including a domed City Hall from the 1840s, give it the nickname Limestone City.

Fort Henry, a nineteenth-century fortress on a hill above the harbour, still looks over the water. Bellevue House was once the home of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister, and Queen's University and the Royal Military College give the town a youthful energy. Boat trips run through the Thousand Islands, and a ferry crosses to Wolfe Island.

A market on the square beside City Hall sells local produce, and craft breweries and waterfront cafés serve fish from the Great Lakes, while sailing boats fill the harbour through the warm months.
