Experience the best of Whistler

Whistler, in the coastal mountains of British Columbia, is a ski and mountain-bike resort village between two big peaks, Whistler and Blackcomb.

Whistler sits in a valley of the Coast Mountains, about two hours' drive up the Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver, with a pedestrian village at the base of two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb. The Peak 2 Peak gondola links the two mountains across a deep valley. The resort hosted the alpine events of the 2010 Winter Olympics, and the resort takes its name from the whistling calls of the marmots on the slopes.

The drive itself is a sight, passing the fjord of Howe Sound, Shannon Falls and the granite dome of the Stawamus Chief near Squamish. Around Whistler are alpine lakes such as Lost Lake and Alta Lake, forest trails with waterfalls like Brandywine Falls, and Garibaldi Provincial Park, with its volcanic Black Tusk. The Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre and the Audain Art Museum add culture to the village.

Après-ski is part of the local rhythm, with fondue, craft beer and steaming outdoor hot tubs, and menus lean on Pacific salmon, game and hearty mountain cooking. Snow normally covers the mountains from late November to April, while summer brings hiking, lake swimming and the lift-served mountain-bike park.
