Experience the best of Victoria
Victoria, capital of British Columbia, is a harbour city at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, known for gardens, old stone buildings and afternoon tea.

The Inner Harbour is the centre of Victoria, ringed by the copper-domed Parliament Buildings, the Royal BC Museum and a château-style hotel, with floatplanes landing on the water and street performers along the causeway. Behind it, narrow lanes lead to Chinatown, the oldest in Canada, and to Bastion Square. Craigdarroch Castle, a Victorian mansion on a hill, has stained glass and carved woodwork, and Beacon Hill Park runs down to bluffs above the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Butchart Gardens, planted in an old limestone quarry at Brentwood Bay, is the best-known excursion, and Fisherman's Wharf has floating houseboats painted in bright colours. Boats leave the harbour to watch orcas and humpback whales in the waters of the Salish Sea, and the coast to the west around Sooke is rocky and forested. Ferries run to the Gulf Islands and across to the mainland.
Afternoon tea, a legacy of the city's British roots, is served in hotels and tea rooms, and local menus lean on Pacific salmon, Dungeness crab, spot prawns and oysters, with craft beer and cider from island producers. Winters are mild and rainy by Canadian standards, and the long dry summers fill the streets with hanging baskets of flowers, earning the city its nickname, the Garden City.
