The Parthenon crowns the Acropolis, flanked by the Erechtheion and its porch of caryatids, and the Acropolis Museum at the foot of the hill displays sculpture found on the rock. Around it, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch and the marble Panathenaic Stadium make the classical city easy to walk through.

Plaka and Anafiotika wind up the slopes below with whitewashed houses and tiny churches, while Monastiraki fills with flea-market stalls and Psyrri with bars. Lycabettus Hill and Filopappou Hill give sweeping views to the sea, and the National Archaeological Museum holds treasures from across Greece. Along the coast, the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion is a favourite sunset trip.
