  • 5Fun and informative dive into local food culture

Mikel is a great chef and teacher. He made us all comfortable and provided interesting information about the Basque culture, ingredients and techniques. I highly recommend this unique experience to anyone with an interest in food and cooking!

  • 5Outstanding, 10* experience

I went to this cooking class with my mum & we had THE BEST time. Mikel (who spoke fluent english) made an enormous amount of effort to integrate the group & ensure we were all chatting away in no time. The drinks were flowing & the time flew by! Not only did I love the attention to detail with knife skills, we were given the history behind the dishes too & of course, we all got to sit together and eat all of them. Honestly, couldn't fault it. Hands down, our best experience in Bilbao. I would recommend doing this at the start of your trip as Mikel had so many good recommendations!

  • 5Food experience extraordinaire!

This was a great experience! Not only did we learn to cook we also learned about the great food that we were eating. The kitchen was clean and well organized and the Chef was knowledgeable and fun. The Gilda Pintxos was our favorite. You cannot miss if you book this experience.

  • 5Chef Mikel was an Excellent Teacher!

We truly enjoyed our time with Chef Mikel at the Gastronómica Cooking School. We learned so much about cutting vegetables properly and how to cook basque specialities. The meal was plentiful and wine free flowing - 2 Tcokolinas and a Tempernillo We cooked a full meal with pintxos, bread, salad, cheese and salame, fish stew delicious!!! - full ribeye steak, peppers and an amazing and award winning bread pudding-like dessert. Chef Mikel was fun, gave great tips and made the time go by so quickly. We highly recommend his classes!!

About Bilbao

Bilbao is a Basque city on the Nervión River, a former industrial port reborn around a titanium-clad art museum and an old quarter of pintxo bars.

Bilbao grew rich on iron ore and shipbuilding, and its industrial riverside has been turned to culture. The Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Gehry and covered in titanium, curves beside the river, with a giant flower-covered dog and a spider sculpture outside. The Fine Arts Museum, in a park nearby, and the Zubizuri footbridge by Santiago Calatrava are other stops.

Top-ranked sights in Bilbao: Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Casco Viejo, Bilbao's Santiago Cathedral.
