  • 5Lovely tour of San Sebastián and coast

I really enjoyed this tour. I was taking a two day side trip from Madrid to Basque Country with the intention of spending one day in Bilbao and one day on this tour. My guide gave me a great background on Basque Country culture and history during our tour. We tasted some local food and drink at several of the many bars. San Sebastián was a pretty place I knew nothing about before this trip. Combining it with a day touring in Bilbao and visiting the Guggenheim museum there is a great way to get a good appreciation for the two main cities and coastline of Basque Country! There’s even a Game of Thrones site on the coast that we visited even though it wasn’t on the itinerary!

  • 5Fantastic tour including some special places along the way

If you want a tour with a local, this is what you are looking for. Zach took us off the beaten path for some great hikes that otherwise we never would have found. The tour culminated in the lowdown of his favorite pintxos places in San Sebastian

  • 5Fabulous Best of Basque Tours

I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the exceptional experiences I had while participating in five tours organized by The Best of Basque Tour Company. The dedication and enthusiasm displayed by your team members, Irene, Zach, and Olaia, truly reflect their pride in Basque heritage and culture. Each tour, including visits to Bilbao, San Sebastian, the charming Coastal Towns, French Basque regions, Guernica, and small villages, greatly exceeded my expectations. I was particularly impressed by the thoughtful itinerary that included delightful pintxos tastings and memorable lunches at quaint fishing villages. Moreover, your team's extensive historical knowledge and insightful recommendations for additional sights to explore enriched my understanding of the region. Their genuine passion for showcasing the Basque Country made each experience not just enjoyable but also deeply educational. Thank you for providing such remarkable tours that highlight the beauty and richness of Basque culture. I look forward to recommending your services to others and hope to join more of your excursions in the future.

  • 5A Day with Irene

The four of us had the most wonderful day with Irene in San Sebastián. Irene is most pleasant. knowledgeable, energetic and so sweet. The day could not have gone better. If you are in Bilbao or nearby I would tell you to use the Best of Basque and particularly Irene.

  • 5Great trip to San Sebastian and Basque Coast

This private tour was everything it was advertised to be. Zack picked us up right at our hotel in a beautiful luxury sedan and drove us from Bilbao to a morning walking Tour of San Sebastian. We saw the beaches, the kayak surfers, the bay, the marina, the fresh market. All before it became too crowded. Then we set out for the fishing town of Getaria for some walking and touring before he brought us to a waterside outdoor restaurant for grilled fish, which we simply loved!! You can practically watch the chef cook your fish at the outdoor grill situated just at the front of the restaurant. After lunch we were brought to a geological park along the Atlantic coast that shows rock formations that are millions of years old. This region was featured in the last season of the Game of Thrones saga. In summary, this was a private tour and was exactly what we wanted. No large groups with a guide wearing a headset and you listening to their distorted voice coming thru cheap earbuds; the flexibility to stop for a restroom whenever we needed it; the luxury to have a wonderful and relaxing outdoor lunch and to be able to text Zack whenever we were ready to be picked up; and to have his ear when we had questions, not having to share him with many other tourists and not having to fear monopolizing his time when others also want some attention. If this is the type of experience you are seeking, look no further than this tour option!!

  • 5A Day Beautifully Spent in the Basque Region

We did a full day tour of San Sebastián, Getaria, and Zumaia with Zach and had a fabulous time. His van is spacious, clean, and comfortable and he is an excellent driver! He “reads his audience” and formulates the tour and pace accordingly. We had a wonderful day and would highly recommend this tour and ANY tour ‘The Best of Basque’ offers as they are true to their name!!

About Bilbao

Bilbao is a Basque city on the Nervión River, a former industrial port reborn around a titanium-clad art museum and an old quarter of pintxo bars.

Bilbao grew rich on iron ore and shipbuilding, and its industrial riverside has been turned to culture. The Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Gehry and covered in titanium, curves beside the river, with a giant flower-covered dog and a spider sculpture outside. The Fine Arts Museum, in a park nearby, and the Zubizuri footbridge by Santiago Calatrava are other stops.

Top-ranked sights in Bilbao: Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Casco Viejo, Bilbao's Santiago Cathedral.
