  • 5Perfect tour

Although we had a full bus (47people), our guide, Christina, was very organized and clear with information. When we arrived at Santiago, Christina asked a "pilgrim" to share her experience, which was very insightful. Adequate time was given to have lunch and explore the town. It was a very good tour.

  • 5Great tour

The tour was great. Jorge was an amazing guide who knew all kinds of information and history. The pickup was super easy right outside the ship in the port area.

  • 1Cruisers beware

⚠️ Cruise passengers — think twice before booking through Viator. We booked this excursion specifically because it was advertised as being for cruise passengers, with collection from your ship. We also had an overnight stay in La Coruña, so there was no concern about getting back to the ship on time. We booked the 10am departure on that basis. After arriving in port following a sea day, we switched our phones on and discovered several emails telling us that the excursion had been moved an hour earlier and, even worse, that we were now expected to meet at a different ship. We had just 20 minutes to get ready. We missed breakfast, rushed off our ship and made our way as quickly as possible to the other ship. We arrived at around 9:10am — just 10 minutes after the revised departure time. Security quite rightly wouldn't allow us onto the other ship's berth. We explained exactly what had happened and, after a few minutes, were told that the tour had already left. We contacted Viator, who told us the tour operator had tried to call us. We had no missed phone calls whatsoever. We later discovered they had tried contacting us through WhatsApp, which I rarely use. Why would you rely on WhatsApp rather than actually calling the customer's mobile phone when the booking is specifically aimed at cruise passengers? The whole point of booking through a company advertising excursions for cruise passengers is that you expect them to understand how cruise arrivals, security and ship movements work. This was a complete shambles and left us rushing around the port, missing breakfast and ultimately missing the excursion through no fault of our own. To be fair, the tour operator did eventually issue us with a full refund, and that is the one positive thing I can say about the experience. But a refund doesn't change the fact that the communication was completely inadequate and the arrangements were changed at extremely short notice. My advice to fellow cruise passengers: BE VERY CAREFUL BOOKING EXCURSIONS THROUGH VIATOR. If your excursion depends on a particular ship, port or departure time, don't assume that the original arrangements will be honoured or that you'll be contacted properly if they change. After this experience, we will never book an excursion through Viator again, and I would seriously recommend other cruisers consider booking directly with a reputable cruise-excursion operator instead.

  • 5Excellent Tour

Excellent tour on the river. Guide and captain and port wine were fine. Highly recommended if you only have a short time.

  • 4Go if you must

This was a well run excursion by Optimus but less enjoyable than expected due to crowds everywhere. Scenery on the way wasn't anything special.

About La Coruña

A Coruña, or La Coruña in Spanish, is a Galician port on a peninsula, with the Roman Tower of Hercules, glass-fronted galleries and Atlantic beaches.

A Coruña occupies a peninsula that juts into the Atlantic on the north-west coast of Spain, in Galicia. The Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse that has been guiding ships since Roman times, stands at its northern end and is a World Heritage site. In the centre, the white-framed glass galleries along the Avenida de la Marina have earned it the nickname City of Glass, and María Pita Square, with its grand town hall, is the main plaza.
