Itinerary

  1. We pick you up from our meeting point and we begin our excursion with a tour in the picturesque alleys of Nafplio with its neoclassical mansions and Venetian balconies.

  2. Our first tasting stop is a traditional grocery store where we taste local varieties of cheese and sausage and we learn their little manufacturing secrets by the grocer.

  3. Then we head to the Syntagma Square, the heart of the city. We learn more about this historic square and the surrounding buildings.

  4. Continuing our tour we pass through the neighborhood of ''Yialos" and we taste local varieties of wines in a cellar-wine shop, while the owner narrate us the art of local wine making.

  5. Our culinary excursion ends in an authentic traditional ice cream shop. Having our ice cream at hand we walk to the beach of Nafplio in order to admire the Venetian fortress of Mpourtzi and to learn more about its historic existence over the centuries.

    We did this tour with Safia. Not only was she full of information about the local foods, she was full of local and historic information about Nafplio. Sofia has a warm and funny nature. The wine shop, delicatessen and bakery we visted were great and the owners very informative. Great way to spend half a day in the company of Sofia.

    Sofia guide us thru a bee keeper’s day, sampling many different types of honey, and learning about medicinal value of honey along the way. Then onto a local cheese maker to sample cheeses from the region. Still More: onto donuts drizzle with honey and walnuts and Nutella and chocolate sprinkles. Lastly we samples an alternative Sovlaki made of pork, lamb and beef. Sofia was a wonderful source of knowledge, told many great stories and was very entertaining. About Nafplio

Nafplio is a seaside town in the Peloponnese, once the first capital of modern Greece, with Venetian lanes, a harbour fortress and a hilltop castle.

Nafplio sits on the Argolic Gulf in the north-eastern Peloponnese, a town of neoclassical mansions, Venetian houses and flower-hung balconies climbing from the waterfront. It was the first capital of modern Greece, from 1823 to 1834. The Bourtzi, a small castle on an islet, guards the harbour, and Palamidi, a Venetian fortress on a rock above the town, is reached by a long staircase or by road.
