6. The silk weaving factory in Dalat is an interesting place to visit, to see the entire process, from cocoon to the fabric. This is the only silk factory in the country that maintains the old method of removing silks from the cocoons. The cocoons are soaked in hot water, and the delicate thread is wound onto a machine that unravels the cocoon. The thread is then wound onto a reel, which is used on a large loom, to weave it into a delicately patterned fabric.

About Da Lat

Da Lat is a cool hill city in Vietnam's Central Highlands, a French-built resort of pine forests, flower gardens, lakes and waterfalls.

Da Lat lies on a plateau at about 1,500 metres in the Central Highlands, where the air is cooler than on the coast and pine forests cover the hills. The French developed it as a hill station in the early twentieth century after Alexandre Yersin explored the plateau in 1893, and villas, a railway station and a pink cathedral recall that time. Xuan Huong Lake, an artificial lake in the town centre, is circled by a walking path.
