Nha Trang curves around a wide bay on Vietnam's south-central coast, with a six-kilometre beach and a seafront boulevard. The Po Nagar Cham Towers, Hindu brick sanctuaries built by the Cham people over several centuries, stand on a hill beside the river, and the Long Son Pagoda has a huge white seated Buddha on its hilltop. The Gothic stone cathedral and the Yersin Museum, honouring a Swiss-French doctor who made his home here, are other stops.

Boats cross to Hon Mun and other islands for snorkelling and diving, with reefs in a marine protected area. The Thap Ba hot springs offer mud baths, and the Ba Ho waterfalls tumble through a forested gorge north of town. Dalat, a cool hill town, is reached by a mountain road, and long beaches run south towards Cam Ranh.

Seafood grilled or steamed, noodle soup with fish cakes, grilled pork rolls from nearby Ninh Hoa, and mini rice pancakes called bánh căn are local favourites. Khanh Hoa province is also known for swiftlet nests. Nha Trang is drier than other parts of central Vietnam; the best months are February to August, and rain and storms arrive from October to December.
