Experience the best of Da Nang

Da Nang is a breezy coastal city in central Vietnam, with long sandy beaches, the Marble Mountains and misty hill stations close at hand.

My Khe Beach stretches along the city's eastern edge, backed by seafood restaurants and a palm-lined promenade. The Han River runs through the centre, crossed by the Dragon Bridge, shaped like its namesake and lit up after dark, and the Son Tra Peninsula rises to the north with forested slopes, a towering Lady Buddha statue and rare red-shanked douc langurs.

South of town, the Marble Mountains hide caves and pagodas within five limestone hills, and the craft village at their foot carves stone sculptures. To the west, the Ba Na Hills are reached by a long cable car and home to the Golden Bridge, held aloft by a pair of giant hands sculpted to look like weathered stone. The Hai Van Pass winds north along a dramatic coastline toward Hue.

Local specialities include mi quang turmeric noodles, banh xeo crispy pancakes and fresh seafood from the beachfront grills. The dry season from about February to August is the time for the beach, while autumn brings heavy rains and occasional typhoons. Hoi An is a short drive south, making the two an easy pair.
