Highlights

The tunnels of Củ Chi are an immense network of connecting tunnels located in the Củ Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, and are part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The Củ Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War, and were the Viet Cong's base of operations for the Tết Offensive in 1968. The tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous North Vietnamese fighters.

Itinerary

  1. The Cu Chi Tunnels, a historical testament to the Vietnam War, offer a remarkable insight into the guerrilla warfare tactics employed by the Viet Cong. These tunnels were ingeniously designed and played a crucial role in the conflict. Embedded within the lush landscapes of Cu Chi, the tunnel system is an intricate web of subterranean passages, bunkers, weapon caches, living quarters, and communication routes. These tunnels were not merely a means of hiding but served as an underground village, complete with kitchens, hospitals, and even theaters.

About Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City, still widely called Saigon, is Vietnam's buzzing commercial hub of French colonial landmarks, war history and superb street food.

District 1 holds the main sights within walking distance: the red-brick Notre-Dame Cathedral, the elegant Central Post Office with its vaulted hall, the colonial Opera House and the ornate City Hall. The Independence Palace preserves its rooms as they were at the end of the war, and the War Remnants Museum tells the story of the conflict with sobering directness.

Top-ranked sights in Ho Chi Minh City: Cu Chi Tunnels, Saigon Opera House (Opéra de Saïgon), Saigon Central Post Office.
