Itinerary
Upon arrival at the cruise terminal, your friendly team will be there to welcome you and begin your journey to Ancient Olympia. Sit back and enjoy a comfortable drive through the beautiful Peloponnese countryside, passing olive groves, rolling hills, and traditional villages on the way to the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
Travel back nearly 3,000 years and discover the legendary birthplace of the Olympic Games. Ancient Olympia first hosted the Olympics in 776 BC and remains the sacred site where the Olympic Flame is still lit before every modern Games. Explore the impressive Temple of Zeus, once home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, visit the Temple of Hera where the Olympic Torch ceremony takes place, and walk through the ancient gymnasium and training grounds where athletes once prepared for glory. Step into the original Olympic stadium from ancient times all the way to the Athens 2004 Olympics.
Your Olympia experience begins with a visit to one of Greece’s most renowned museums, where ancient history comes to life through remarkable sculptures, sacred treasures, and fascinating everyday artifacts. Admire the famous Hermes of Praxiteles and discover stories of mythology, athletic competition, and divine tradition that bring deeper meaning to the ruins you’ve just explored. It’s the perfect way to connect even more closely with the spirit of Ancient Olympia.
Enjoy some free time in the charming village of modern Olympia, a peaceful town with fewer than 600 residents. Stroll through its welcoming streets filled with local shops, cozy cafés, traditional tavernas, and artisan boutiques, the perfect place to enjoy authentic Greek flavors or pick up a special souvenir to remember your visit.
After a day rich in history, culture, and unforgettable experiences, sit back and enjoy a comfortable drive back to the port. With over 20 years of experience creating cruise-friendly excursions, your team ensures a smooth, worry-free journey with guaranteed on-time return to your ship. About Katakolo
Katakolo is a small port on the west coast of the Peloponnese and the nearest harbour to ancient Olympia, where the Olympic Games began.
Katakolo sits at the tip of a small cape in the region of Elis, facing the Ionian Sea, with the island of Zakynthos visible on a clear day across the water. The port is a small waterfront of tavernas and cafés along a quay. Pyrgos, the regional town, lies a short way inland, and the coast on either side has long sandy beaches.
