This is not a “tour”. A taxi picks you up, too small for 5 people, and drives you to the site and drops you off and picks you up 2 hours later. She didn’t make reservations for the winery but said we could go at 12:30, which was half an hour before the end of the tour and the time we needed to be back on our ship. Also, you need to choose between the winery and the beach. Don’t waste your money.

  • 5Excellent tour to see it...

Excellent tour to see it all at a relaxed pace. We chose to see the Olympic museum and ruins, visit an olive oil mill and enjoy some beach time. All great. We loved the flavored olive oils and shipped home to the US. Our tour guide was Marilena and she was amazing. She provided just the right amount of information while she safely drove us all over the island. We would recommend the tour and suggest you request Marilena.

  • 1Not as expected

We were very disappointed in our trip. Our guide didn’t not give us any history and handed us a book at Olympia for us to figure out on our own. Not at all what we expected. He was friendly and talkative but I feel like I have to come back to actually learn about the history

About Katakolo

Katakolo is a small port on the west coast of the Peloponnese and the nearest harbour to ancient Olympia, where the Olympic Games began.

Katakolo sits at the tip of a small cape in the region of Elis, facing the Ionian Sea, with the island of Zakynthos visible on a clear day across the water. The port is a small waterfront of tavernas and cafés along a quay. Pyrgos, the regional town, lies a short way inland, and the coast on either side has long sandy beaches.
