About Alicante

Alicante is a Mediterranean port city on Spain's Costa Blanca, with a hilltop castle, a palm-lined seafront promenade and an island nature reserve.

Alicante lies beneath Mount Benacantil, which carries the Santa Bárbara Castle, a fortress of Moorish origin with views over the bay. The Explanada de España, a palm-shaded promenade paved with a wavy pattern of marble tiles, runs along the harbour, and the old quarter of Santa Cruz climbs the hillside in whitewashed lanes. The modernist Central Market holds fish, produce and cured meats.

Top-ranked sights in Alicante: Santa Barbara Castle (Castillo de Santa Bárbara), Guadalest, Barrio de Santa Cruz.
