Experience the best of Aeroglen

Aeroglen is a small coastal suburb about five kilometres north of the centre of Cairns, in Far North Queensland, and most of it is taken up by Cairns Airport. It lies between the Captain Cook Highway and the Coral Sea, with the Barron River to the north, and the highway runs on from here to the northern beaches while the green slopes of the Great Dividing Range rise behind.

The Esplanade, Cairns's waterfront, has a large saltwater lagoon pool, a boardwalk along the mudflats where wading birds feed, and the marina from which boats leave for the Great Barrier Reef. The Cairns Botanic Gardens, with rainforest walks and a big collection of tropical plants, lie in the hills behind the city, and a scenic railway and a cable car both climb the range to the village of Kuranda.

Tropical fruit grown across the region appears at markets and in desserts, and barramundi and prawns are on most menus. The drier months bring clear skies and the best visibility on the reef, while the wet season brings heat, humidity and heavy rain.
