Experience the best of Port Douglas
Port Douglas is a relaxed seaside town on Queensland's tropical coast, set between the Daintree rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.

Port Douglas began as a gold-rush port in the 1870s and is now an easygoing resort town on a spit of land between the Coral Sea and Dickson Inlet. Four Mile Beach curves away to the north fringed with palms, Macrossan Street holds the cafés and restaurants, and Flagstaff Hill gives a view over the beach and the mountains behind. A small white chapel, St Mary's by the Sea, stands beside the park at the water's edge.
Two World Heritage areas meet here. Boats cross to the outer Great Barrier Reef and to Low Isles, a small coral cay with a lighthouse, while the Daintree, one of the oldest rainforests on Earth, begins a short drive up the coast. Mossman Gorge has clear pools among boulders, the Daintree River is home to crocodiles and birds, and the road runs on to Cape Tribulation, where the forest reaches the beach.
Tropical fruit is the local flavour: mangoes, lychees, bananas and papaya, eaten fresh or turned into ice cream, with barramundi and prawns on the menus of the harbour restaurants. The dry season from May to October is warm and clear, while the wet, from about November to April, is hot and humid and turns the rainforest a deep green.
