  • 1Poor Communicators and Excellent Flakes

I signed up for 3 tours offered by NWT Charter Services leading up to my 4-day stay in Yellowknife: City Tour, Bison/North Arm, and Aurora Hunting in shared bus. My city tour guide Zinsi was wonderful and despite me being the only tour member that day she brought a great deal of enthusiasm and professionalism and was great at answering all my questions about Yellowknife! Unfortunately that is where the positive experience ended. The Bison tour was cancelled in a vague canned email without reason less than 24 hours before it was set to start and I had to call and leave a message to confirm that it was in fact cancelled, but I understood the reasoning they gave despite being disappointed (as I was super excited for that tour and had too little notice to rebook a similar tour with another operator for the next day). Then that night I was stood up for the Aurora tour, left waiting over an hour past the pickup window for a tour that had supposedly been cancelled but I was never notified - I even got a confirmation text the morning of the tour at 10:30am CONFIRMING that the tour was on. No refund in sight for either of the cancelled tours and no opportunity for me to make up the time lost from these gaps in my itinerary. Please do not book an outing with NWT Charter as they are not reliable communicators and seem to enjoy cancelling events more than running them

  • 5excellent tour

Guide, Zinsi, was excellent. Was given full tour of the town and the attractions. Adapted and changed tour to add areas as I had already seen some attractions.

About Yellowknife

Yellowknife, capital of Canada's Northwest Territories, sits on the shore of Great Slave Lake and is known for its gold-mining past and northern lights.

Yellowknife grew in the 1930s after gold was found on the north shore of Great Slave Lake, and it became the territorial capital in 1967. Old Town, on a rocky peninsula, holds floatplane docks, houseboats moored in the bay and weathered log buildings. The Bush Pilot's Monument on the Rock looks across the water, and the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre tells the story of the territory's Indigenous peoples.

Top-ranked sights in Yellowknife: Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC).
