Itinerary
Arriving at an altitude of 568 metres, you escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The Heidelberger Hausberg offers breathtaking views over the Neckar valley, the Rhine plain and sometimes even up to the Vosges mountains in good weather.
The Heidelberg cable car is an attraction in itself. The upper, nostalgic track takes us to the whey cure in a slow, steep ride. From there, the lower cable car, one of the most modern funiculars in Germany, takes you to the castle in a few minutes.
Heidelberg Castle, the epitome of German Romanticism, towers majestically over the city. A tour of the inner courtyard and the castle garden reveals the eventful history of the former residence of the Electors of the Palatinate.
The German Pharmacy Museum invites you to travel through time. The exhibits offer fascinating insights into the history of medicine from antiquity to the 21st century.
The entrance to the cellar, which houses the legendary Great Barrel, is located in the Royal Hall building. This world's largest walk-in wine barrel was made from 130 oak logs in the 18th century and holds over 219,000 litres of wine.
The most picturesque and historic square in Heidelberg.
The historic and vibrant heart of Heidelberg's old town.
Learn interesting facts in Heidelberg's largest church.
Visit Heidelberg's architecturally interesting Catholic Church and be surprised by the interior.
It connects Heidelberg's old town with the opposite bank of the Neckar River at the foot of Heiligenberg. Along with the castle, it is one of the absolute landmarks of the city.
You will end the day on the opposite side of the Neckar, where you will embark on the famous Philosopher's Trail. This climatically favoured panoramic path owes its name to the Heidelberg scholars who once walked here. From here you can enjoy the classic postcard view : the deep blue ribbon of the Neckar, the Old Bridge and the castle that shines in the sunlight - with a glass of Palatinate wine you say goodbye to Heidelberg.

About Heidelberg
Heidelberg is a university town on the Neckar in south-west Germany, with a ruined red-sandstone castle, an old stone bridge and a long main street.
Heidelberg sits where the Neckar leaves its wooded valley and enters the Rhine plain in Baden-Württemberg. The castle above the old town, built in red sandstone and left half ruined by French armies in the 1690s and a lightning strike in 1764, holds the Great Tun, a barrel that can hold over 200,000 litres of wine. The Old Bridge, with its twin-towered gate, crosses the river, and the Hauptstrasse runs for over a kilometre through the pedestrian old town.
Top-ranked sights in Heidelberg: Heidelberg Old Town (Altstadt), Karl-Theodor-Bridge (Alte Brucke), Market Square (Marktplatz).
