Discover where Speyer once minted its own coins, a reminder of the city's status as a free imperial city with its own economic privileges.
Stand before the town hall of a free imperial city, a symbol of Speyer's historic self-governance and civic pride.
Step into the medieval Jewish courtyard and its ancient mikveh, one of the best-preserved reminders of Speyer's once-thriving Jewish community.
Take in Speyer's grand Baroque parish church, a striking contrast to the medieval architecture found elsewhere along the route.
Stand before the largest Romanesque church in the world, standing since 1030 and home to the tombs of eight Holy Roman rulers.
Finish your walk at a lone medieval watchtower, one of the last surviving remnants of Speyer's vanished 68-tower defensive ring.

About Heidelberg
Heidelberg is a university town on the Neckar in south-west Germany, with a ruined red-sandstone castle, an old stone bridge and a long main street.
Heidelberg sits where the Neckar leaves its wooded valley and enters the Rhine plain in Baden-Württemberg. The castle above the old town, built in red sandstone and left half ruined by French armies in the 1690s and a lightning strike in 1764, holds the Great Tun, a barrel that can hold over 200,000 litres of wine. The Old Bridge, with its twin-towered gate, crosses the river, and the Hauptstrasse runs for over a kilometre through the pedestrian old town.
Top-ranked sights in Heidelberg: Heidelberg Old Town (Altstadt), Karl-Theodor-Bridge (Alte Brucke), Market Square (Marktplatz).
