Itinerary
This evening starts at Miradouro dos Barros, a stunning viewpoint in Lisbon. Here you will gather against the stunning backdrop of this beautiful location to introduce ourselves, and prepare for the evening ahead. At our first stop, we will discuss the impacts of colonialism on Portuguese culture.
The adventure continues at Damas, a space that combines a restaurant, bar, and concert venue. This is where Lisbon’s queer nightlife truly comes alive and queer voices find a powerful presence. Step into Damas, a venue that supports immigrants who are driving social and political change in Portugal. This is the perfect place to savor exceptional Portuguese dishes.
We will make a brief stop to admire a mural dedicated to the Carnation Revolution. During this visit, you'll learn about the dictatorship and the historical context that led to the revolution, how it unfolded, and its lasting impact on Portuguese society.
The adventure continues at Má Lingua or A Mata, both queer-friendly bars and cultural spaces that provide platforms for the queer community to perform. At this stop, we’ll delve into the challenges faced by queer and immigrant-owned venues, including the wave of closures that occurred in 2024.
We will end the tour in a queer-owned bar, where we will discuss the contemporary queer scene in Portugal, with a special focus on Lisbon. About Lisbon
Lisbon spills down its hills to the Tagus estuary, a city of tiled façades, rattling yellow trams, viewpoint terraces and late, unhurried dinners.
The old quarters hold most of the charm. Alfama's tangle of lanes climbs to São Jorge Castle and echoes with fado in the evening, the Baixa's orderly grid runs down to the vast Praça do Comércio on the river, and Bairro Alto and Chiado mix bookshops and cafés by day with bars by night. Viewpoints such as Santa Luzia and Senhora do Monte frame red rooftops and shining water.
Top-ranked sights in Lisbon: Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), Pena National Palace (Palacio Nacional da Pena), Alfama.
