About Halkidiki
Halkidiki is a three-pronged peninsula in northern Greece, with pine-backed beaches, ancient sites and the monastic community of Mount Athos.
Halkidiki reaches into the Aegean south-east of Thessaloniki like a hand with three fingers: Kassandra, Sithonia and, furthest east, the narrow peninsula of Mount Athos. Kassandra has lively beach resorts, Sithonia is wilder, with pine forests running down to coves of clear water and small fishing villages, and Mount Athos is a self-governing monastic community whose twenty monasteries can be seen from boats offshore.
