Experience the best of Halkidiki
Halkidiki is a three-pronged peninsula in northern Greece, with pine-backed beaches, ancient sites and the monastic community of Mount Athos.

Halkidiki reaches into the Aegean south-east of Thessaloniki like a hand with three fingers: Kassandra, Sithonia and, furthest east, the narrow peninsula of Mount Athos. Kassandra has lively beach resorts, Sithonia is wilder, with pine forests running down to coves of clear water and small fishing villages, and Mount Athos is a self-governing monastic community whose twenty monasteries can be seen from boats offshore.
Inland, the town of Polygyros is the regional capital, and Stagira is the birthplace of Aristotle, with a monument to him. Ancient Olynthos preserves the grid of streets and the mosaic floors of a classical Greek city, and the Petralona Cave, with its stalactites, yielded prehistoric finds. Thessaloniki, with its Byzantine churches and waterfront, is an easy trip from the peninsula.
Halkidiki is famed for its large green olives, as well as honey, local wine, mussels and fish from the surrounding bays. Tavernas serve grilled fish and tsipouro by the water. The beach season runs from late May to September, with the sea warmest in August.
