Its unique five-story exterior is akin to the honeycomb of a beehive with its 953 small windows called jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework.[1] The original intent of the lattice design was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life and festivals celebrated in the street below without being seen, since they had to obey the strict rules of "purdah", which forbade them from appearing in public without face coverings. About Jaipur

Jaipur, the Pink City of Rajasthan, is a royal capital of forts, palaces and bazaars set against the rugged Aravalli hills.

The old city's walls enclose a grid of streets painted terracotta pink, laid out in the eighteenth century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. At its heart, the City Palace mixes Rajput and Mughal styles, the honeycomb façade of the Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds, looks down on the street, and the giant astronomical instruments of Jantar Mantar still track the sun.

Top-ranked sights in Jaipur: Palace of Wind (Hawa Mahal), City Palace, Jal Mahal (Water Palace).
