Experience the best of New Delhi
New Delhi pairs the stately avenues of India's capital with the bazaars and Mughal monuments of Old Delhi, a city of layered empires and great food.

The planned capital centres on a grand ceremonial avenue running from India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace. Nearby, Humayun's Tomb, a forerunner of the Taj Mahal, sits in formal gardens, and the Qutub Minar, a towering sandstone minaret, rises in the south. The Lotus Temple and the vast Akshardham complex add striking modern landmarks.
Old Delhi, built by Shah Jahan as Shahjahanabad, is a world apart. The Red Fort's sandstone walls face Chandni Chowk, a bazaar of spice merchants, silver shops and wedding stalls, and Jama Masjid, one of India's largest mosques, holds thousands in its courtyard. Cycle rickshaws are the way through its lanes. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Lodhi Gardens and Hauz Khas village offer quieter moments.
Stuffed parathas, tangy chaat, butter chicken, kebabs and kulfi are served everywhere from roadside stalls to grand dining rooms. October to March brings the most comfortable weather, with Diwali lighting up the city in autumn and the Republic Day parade marching down the ceremonial avenue each January, while the summer heat is intense. The city is the classic starting point of the Golden Triangle to Agra and Jaipur.
