This site was first an American temporary Military Cemetery before becoming a German Military Cemetery.
On D Day, a German artillery Battery on top of this cliff was the objective of the American 2nd Ranger Battalion, 225 men especially trained to eliminate this threat. The Rangers landed at the foot of the cliff with climbing equipment, your guide will tell you the following of the story.
After a presentation of the site, your guide will give you time enough to feel the special atmosphere of this place like all Military Cemeteries, but here the 9 387 white marble graves overlook Omaha Beach.

About Bayeux
Bayeux is a small Norman town of medieval lanes and a Gothic cathedral, home to a famous embroidery of the Norman conquest and close to the D-Day beaches.
A strip of embroidered linen almost seventy metres long, made in the eleventh century, tells the story of the Norman conquest of England in 1066 and hangs in its own museum in town. The cathedral, whose crossing spire towers over the rooftops, was consecrated in 1077 with William the Conqueror present. Bayeux escaped bombing in 1944, so its old centre of half-timbered and stone houses along the River Aure is largely intact.
Top-ranked sights in Bayeux: Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial.
