Had a wonderful tour with Tierrey. He is so knowledgeable and I am glad I decided to book this tour rather than drive around myself. His van was comfortable for the 4 couples on my tour. He shared stories, details that explained and made clear the tragedy of that day, Wish all Americans could see and experience it. We ended the day at Ohama Beach and the museum. Very emotional day but so happy with the tour.

  • 4Know your audience!

My wife, and I did the American D-Day Beaches full day tour from Bayeux. It was a group of 8, including us and it was a good size. The van was a little tight but the drives to the beaches and other locations were not very far so it was fine. Pick up was easy and our group (all Americans) was very nice. Our tour guide was from England and was very knowledgeable but seemed to have a bit of an issue with the United States and our contribution to the war effort. It was not overt, but he made several comments of how Great Britain had to bail out the Americans and actually asked our group to thank him for England sinking a U boat that had sank an American Cruiser, killing many Americans. He also underplayed the effort of the American rangers that climbed Pointe du Hoc, saying it wasn't very steep and they were able to pretty much walk up, facing very little resistance. Here's my advice to this guide: know your audience. This group came from great distances to learn and witness the sites of these horrific events and brave soldiers, from all nations involved in this terrible war. Don't belittle their efforts or ours.

About Bayeux

Bayeux is a small Norman town of medieval lanes and a Gothic cathedral, home to a famous embroidery of the Norman conquest and close to the D-Day beaches.

A strip of embroidered linen almost seventy metres long, made in the eleventh century, tells the story of the Norman conquest of England in 1066 and hangs in its own museum in town. The cathedral, whose crossing spire towers over the rooftops, was consecrated in 1077 with William the Conqueror present. Bayeux escaped bombing in 1944, so its old centre of half-timbered and stone houses along the River Aure is largely intact.

Top-ranked sights in Bayeux: Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial.
