4. 4. Ag. Nikolaos is the cosmopolitan capital of Lasithi having as trademark its multi photographed lagoon, which the locals name Voulismeni. It is set on the largest natural bay on Crete and is built amphitheatrically on a slope.

5. Kritsa picturesque village is among the oldest on Crete, built on the feet of Mt. Kastellos semicircularly built, with a marvelous view to vast olive groves and the Mirabello bay. Here old customs and traditions are kept alive, still renowned as weaving art center.

6. 6. Kera church The rich Byzantine iconography and different styles make the church of Panagia Kera in Kritsa the most important monument in the region. 13th-14th BC cent.

Heraklion, the largest city on Crete, is a Venetian-walled port near Knossos, the Minoan palace, and the museum that holds its treasures.

Heraklion is the capital and main port of Crete, wrapped in Venetian walls and bastions of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The Koules fortress guards the old harbour mouth, and Lions Square has the Morosini Fountain, held up by four stone lions. Nikos Kazantzakis, the author of Zorba the Greek, is buried on the Martinengo bastion under a simple wooden cross.
