Itinerary

  1. Sightseeing in Athens starts driving under the hill of Acropolis. On the historical hill you will have the opportunity to see the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of the Athena Nike, the monumental gateway (Propylaea), the Erechtheum and of course the famous Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena. You will be able to walk around the sacred hill.

    30 min

  2. The Propylaea is the monumental entrances to the sacred area dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of the city. Built by the architect Mnesicles with Pentelic marble, their design was avant-garde. To the south-west of the Propylaea, on a rampart protecting the main entrance to the Acropolis, is the Ionian temple of Apteros Nike.

    Passes by

  3. Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena. The symbol of the Athenian Democracy and the western civilization.

    Passes by

  4. Temple of Poseidon and Athena, the strangest and most sacred place in ancient Athens.

    Passes by

  5. Temple dedicated to the goddess Athena Nike or Wingless Victory.

    Passes by

  6. The Theatre of Dionysus Elefthereus is a major theatre in Athens, considered to be the world's first theatre, built at the foot of the Athenian Acropolis.

    Passes by

  7. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a stone Roman theater structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. The building was completed in 161 AD and then renovated in 1950

    Passes by

  8. We will visit Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.

    10 min

  9. After the Acropolis, we will head towards the Temple of Zeus by way of Hadrian's Arch and we will admire the biggest temple in antiquity devoted to the King of the Gods.

    Passes by

  10. The Arch of Hadrian most commonly known in Greek as Hadrian's Gate is a monumental gateway resembling—in some respects—a Roman triumphal arch. It spanned an ancient road from the center of Athens, Greece, to the complex of structures on the eastern side of the city that included the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

    Passes by

  11. The Hellenic Parliament, in Greek known as Voulí ton Ellínon is the parliament of Greece, located in the Old Royal Palace, overlooking Syntagma Square in Athens. The Parliament is the supreme democratic institution that represents the citizens through an elected body of Members of Parliament.

    5 min

  12. We will see the changing of the guard (Euzones) in front of the old palace, which is today Parliament House, above the central square of Athens.

    10 min

  • 5Touring Athens

This was a wonderful experience. Our driver picked us up at our Air B and B and dropped us off at our Air B and B. We saw the entire city on this tour from the sea to the Akropolis. Our driver was extremely knowledgeable and taught us so much. This was a wonderful way for my 87 year old mom to see Athens without having to do all of the walking. Our guide was excellent with her as well and made sure she was comfortable and had everything she needed.

  • 4The perfect start to your time in Athens

We had done a similar night tour on our first night in Rome and it remains a wonderful memory. If you have the leisure time to do multiple tours while in Athens, start your trip with a night tour. To see all the sights lit up at night is very special and completely different than touring them during the day. Our guide, Yiannis arrived on time and took us on a nice tour in an air conditioned van with a snack and water. He provided some commentary along the way as well. We were able to see the changing of the guard at night (minus the heat and the crowds), the stadium and saw some incredible night time views of the Acropolis before touring it the next day. It was a great introduction to Athens and its many sights lit up at night. Highly recommended.

About Athens

Athens sets the Acropolis above a sprawling modern capital, where ancient ruins, hillside lanes and long taverna evenings sit side by side.

The Parthenon crowns the Acropolis, flanked by the Erechtheion and its porch of caryatids, and the Acropolis Museum at the foot of the hill displays sculpture found on the rock. Around it, the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch and the marble Panathenaic Stadium make the classical city easy to walk through.

Top-ranked sights in Athens: Acropolis, Parthenon, Acropolis Museum.
