Experience the best of Siquirres

Siquirres lies on the flat lowlands of Limón province, where the mountains of the Central Valley drop toward the Caribbean. The town grew up around the banana plantations and the railway that once carried their fruit to the port, and its streets are lined with shops, churches and small houses.

The Reventazón River runs close to the town on its way to the sea, and the nearby Pacuare River is one of the country's best-known rivers for rafting. Tortuguero, a national park of canals and turtle beaches, lies to the north along the coast and is reached mostly by boat. Cahuita National Park, with coral reefs and beaches, lies to the south.

Caribbean Costa Rican cooking has African and Jamaican roots, with rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, rondón, a coconut stew of fish or meat, and fresh fruit drinks. The Caribbean side is wet for much of the year, and the heat and humidity stay high on most days. The driest spells fall in March and again in September and October.
