Experience the best of Sarıgerme

Sarıgerme is a coastal village in Muğla Province, on a gently curving stretch of Turkey's south-western coast. Its main attraction is the beach, a long band of sand shelving gently into clear water, with pine forest behind it and a line of hotels and small family guesthouses along the road. The village itself is small, with a few shops and fish restaurants rather than sights.

Dalyan, a short drive along the coast, has Lycian rock tombs cut into a cliff above its reed-lined river, and boats run through the channels to İztuzu Beach, where loggerhead turtles nest. The ruins of Kaunos, across the river from Dalyan, can be reached by boat, and the mud baths and hot springs beside Lake Köyceğiz lie inland. Dalaman airport is close, and Fethiye and Marmaris are both within a day's reach.

Evening meals mean grilled sea bass or bream, mezze of aubergine, yoghurt and vegetables cooked in olive oil, and gözleme, thin pancakes folded around cheese or spinach and cooked on a griddle. The swimming season runs from late spring to early autumn, and the pine hills are quiet in winter.
