Kaleiçi, the old quarter, winds down to a Roman harbour through lanes of Ottoman houses, small hotels and cafés. Hadrian's Gate, built in honour of the emperor's visit, marks the entrance, and the fluted Yivli Minaret is the city's emblem. Clifftop parks look across the bay to the Taurus Mountains.

Antalya Museum holds outstanding finds from the region, including statues from Perge. Konyaaltı and Lara beaches stretch on either side of the city, and the Düden Waterfalls tumble straight into the sea. Within reach lie the ruins of Perge, Aspendos with its superbly preserved Roman theatre, Termessos high in the mountains and the seaside town of Side, as well as Phaselis and Olympos to the southwest.

Piyaz bean salad, grilled fish and fresh citrus from the surrounding orchards are local specialities. Antalya enjoys long, hot summers and mild, sunny winters, with spring and autumn ideal for sightseeing and swimming. Boat trips along the coast, rafting in Köprülü Canyon and the cable car up Tahtalı Mountain add adventure.
