Itinerary
Historical side of the Split. Diocletian, the powerful Roman emperor, has built his palace. It is the most famous and important landmark with 1700 years of history within the UNESCO-listed historical complex. (Visit from outside)
The Cathedral of Saint Domniu, founded at the end of the 7th century AD, is the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world. It still has its original structure, which will be renovated later. (Visit from outside)
The monumental statue of Grgur Ninski takes place in the center of the main Split square. He was a famous archbishop of Nin, an ancient capital of Croatia. He defied the Roman Catholic Church, which opposed his call to introduce religious services in the national language of the country.
The building of the Prokurativa was found by Antonio Bajamonti in the mid-19th century. Its foundation was supported by Italian tradition, with all its charm. There are Venetian-style colonnades and reliefs above the windows evoking ancient and Renaissance influences.
The palace is similar to a square in Venice. It is one of the best-preserved monuments of Roman architecture in the world.

About Split
Split is a busy Dalmatian port built within and around a Roman emperor's palace, with ferries to some of Croatia's loveliest islands.
Diocletian's Palace, built around the turn of the fourth century as the emperor's retirement home, is the old town itself: its walls, cellars and courtyards hold homes, shops and cafés. The Peristyle, the colonnaded heart, leads to the Cathedral of St Domnius, once the emperor's mausoleum, and its bell tower gives views over the rooftops.
Top-ranked sights in Split: Budikovac Island (Veliki Budikovac), Blue Lagoon Croatia (Krknjasi Bay), Peristyle Square (Peristil).
