Experience the best of Trogir
Trogir is a walled island town on Croatia's Dalmatian coast, a World Heritage site of marble lanes, a Romanesque cathedral and a seafront fortress.

Trogir occupies a tiny island between the mainland and the larger island of Čiovo, joined to both by bridges, and its old centre is a tight maze of stone lanes, small squares and Romanesque and Renaissance buildings. Founded by Greek colonists in the 3rd century BC, the town later passed to Venice, which left its loggia, its palaces and the lion of St Mark. The Cathedral of St Lawrence has a richly carved portal by Master Radovan from the 13th century.
Kamerlengo Fortress guards the western end of the waterfront, and the harbour promenade, lined with cafés, looks across to Čiovo. Beaches lie on Čiovo and along the coast, olive groves and vineyards cover the hills inland, and the islands off Trogir are a short boat ride away. Split, with the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian, is about 27 kilometres east by road.
Dalmatian cooking relies on the sea and the olive tree: grilled fish, black cuttlefish risotto, octopus salad, and pašticada, beef stewed slowly in wine. Local prosciutto, sheep's cheese and olive oil come before meals, and Dalmatian reds are poured alongside. The sea is warm enough for swimming from June to September.
