4. You will make a short stop at the monastery of Agios Georgios ''Selinari ''to give a closer look at one of the historical monasteries of Crete.

Then you will be greeted by the emblematic bay of Merabelo with the clear blue waters. one of the most unique authentic corners of Cretan beauty is revealed in an area that hides within it all the beauty and essence of the Cretan landscape are the traditional fishing villages of Elounda and Plaka from the port of Plaka we will board at a boat that will take us to the historical island of Spina Longa where you will admire the fortress and the former settlement of lepers. Αlternatively you can browse the picturesque alleys of Plaka, enjoying the view of the Cretan sea or swim in the deep blue waters of Merabelos bay

• 5An Unforgettable Day Exploring Crete with Marinos!

  My friend and I had the absolute pleasure of spending 8 hours touring Crete with Marinos from Unique Crete VIP Tours, and it was hands down one of the best experiences of our trip! Marinos is not just a tour guide—he's a passionate storyteller who truly brought Crete's rich history and culture to life. Throughout the day, he shared fascinating stories and historical insights that gave us a deep appreciation for this beautiful island and its people. What made this tour so special was how personal and authentic it felt. Marinos stopped along the way to introduce us to local herbs growing wild on the hillsides and showed us the incredible variety of fruits and vegetables native to Crete. His knowledge of the land and its produce was impressive and added such a unique dimension to the tour. The visit to the olive oil factory was a highlight! Marinos made sure we understood what distinguishes exceptional olive oil from ordinary ones, and the tasting was both educational and delicious. You can tell he takes pride in sharing Crete's culinary treasures with visitors. The speedboat trip to Spinalonga Island was thrilling and the tour of the island was deeply moving. Marinos provided context and history about the island’s history. Marinos's warmth, expertise, and genuine love for Crete made this tour extraordinary. He went above and beyond to ensure we had an authentic, memorable experience. • 5Look no further for excursions in Crete

  A huge thank you to Maria for organising a private tour for us at short notice. We visited the island of Spinalonga and stopped at various locations including a monastery on the way there. We were lucky enough to have Nikos as our guide for the second time during the week and he did not disappoint. He went out of his way and rescheduled the itinerary for the day just so we could try authentic gyros from a local restaurant. We also stopped at a couple of lovely cafes for Greek coffee breaks. We were able to use a smaller port and shorter (10 minutes) crossing from Crete to Spinalonga which would not have been possible had we opted for a larger coach tour. Thank you for such a lovely day Nikos, you really made our first visit to Crete very special

  The olive oil tour was most enlightening. Marionas was extremely knowledgeable. Answered all our questions and more. It was a private tour for the 4 of us. He was very flexible about which parts of the tour we wanted to spend the most time on. He took us to an amazing Greek restaurant with delicious food as well.

• 5Amazing experience

  The day started early, but as soon as the tour started, we were in for a treat! Marinos, the tour guide, was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. The first stop was an olive oil factory, where he explained how olive oil is made, and how much olive oil cretans consume! We were fascinated, and were given enough time to look around and enjoy the experience! During the tour, he bought us coffee and fruit, and made sure we were comfortable the whole time! The van was air-conditioned, and well-maintained. We highly recommend this tour, if you want to see the “real Crete”, as well as the full experience! One of our favorite days of the whole vacation!

About Agios Nikolaos

Agios Nikolaos is a harbour town on Crete's Gulf of Mirabello, built around a small round lake and a ring of cafés, with Spinalonga island nearby.

Agios Nikolaos wraps around a hillside above Mirabello Bay in eastern Crete. At its heart is Lake Voulismeni, a small, almost circular pool linked to the harbour by a narrow channel and ringed by cafés and tavernas. Fishing boats and yachts fill the marina, and the town's small beaches, folk museum and archaeological museum lie within a short walk.
