1. Situated on the northern side of the Island in Santana, we have another Heritage of Humanity decreed in 1999 by UNESCO, the Biosphere. Finding the beautiful parish where the green vegetation contrast with the blue sky making it a paradise landscape. Ending off with a visit at the Hotel Quinta do Furão, to see one of the biggest waterfalls on the island with an enormous flow of water coming off the top of the mountain directly to the sea, it is fantastic.

About Funchal

Funchal is the capital of Madeira, a Portuguese island in the Atlantic, set on steep green hills with flower-filled gardens and a seafront old town.

Funchal spreads up a steep hillside above a natural harbour on Madeira's south coast. The old town, the Zona Velha, has narrow lanes with painted doors and small restaurants, and the cathedral dates from around 1500. The Mercado dos Lavradores sells tropical fruit, fish and flowers in a hall decorated with blue tiles. A cable car climbs from the harbourfront to Monte, high above.
