About Kununurra
Kununurra is a young town in Western Australia's East Kimberley, beside the Ord River and Lake Argyle, with red ranges, boab trees and irrigated farmland.
Kununurra lies in the far north-east of Western Australia, close to the Northern Territory border, on the Ord River. It was founded in the 1960s to serve the Ord River irrigation scheme, which turned dry plains into fields of sugar cane, melons, mangoes and other crops. Red sandstone ranges, boab trees and wide skies surround the town.
