Highlights

Classic Sacred Valley Tour is a famous valley in the middle of the Andes of Peru, 20 km = 12 miles at its closest north of the Inca capital of Cusco. In Sacred valley tours you get to visit Pisac Inca site, Ollantaytambo ruins and Chinchero colonial temple plus the Inca terraces. Hidden under the tawny skirts of formidable foothills, the spectacular Río Urubamba Valley, known as «El Valle Sagrado (the Sacred Valley of the Incas)», is about 15km north of Cuzco as the condor flies, via a narrow road of hairpin turns. It’s worth exploring this peaceful, fetching corner of the Andes with attractive colonial towns and isolated weaving Inka towns. Star attractions are the markets and the lofty Inca citadels of Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero, but it’s also packed with other Inca sites. Its myriad hiking routes are deservedly gaining in popularity.

About Cusco

Cusco, the old Inca capital high in the Peruvian Andes, blends massive stone walls with colonial churches and is the gateway to Machu Picchu.

The Plaza de Armas is the heart of the city, framed by the cathedral and the Jesuit church of La Compañía. Inca stonework survives throughout the centre, most famously at the Qorikancha, the sun temple on which the Spanish built a monastery, and in the twelve-angled stone on Hatun Rumiyoc street. San Blas, the artisans' quarter, climbs steeply with workshops and cafés.

Top-ranked sights in Cusco: Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo Ruins.
