About Pylos
Pylos is a small harbour town on the south-west coast of the Peloponnese, on Navarino Bay, with Nestor's Mycenaean palace a short drive inland.
Pylos sits at the southern end of Navarino Bay in the Messenia region, below Niokastro, an Ottoman fortress built in the sixteenth century on a rock above the entrance to the bay. The Battle of Navarino took place in the bay in 1827, when a British, French and Russian fleet destroyed the Ottoman and Egyptian navy.
Top-ranked sights in Pylos: Pylos Castle (Pilos Niokastro).
